oscillate (2019) for Open Source 1.4 at The Carnegie, curated by Sso-Rha Kang. oscillate is a physical study of new materials and a meditation on consciousness and mortality, as explored through simultaenous suspensions of presence: Witnessing two dead birds on the sidewalk during a walk with the curator and considering the rafters, sounds, and stories of the gallery and evolving exhibition space.
Sanded steel letters, hand spaced along the base of the rotunda and main gallery floor, which read:
there is a bird / here / but maybe just a speaker / not sure (i know) what’s real / i hear chirping / each Spring / yet / young bodies / hardly feathered / rest in the roadway / for forever

Open Source 1.4 featured more than 120 works from 52 artists selected by 11 curators. The Carnegie’s season invited guest curators to engage artists around the region to create and exhibit work for a continuously evolving gallery environment. New contexts and groupings emerged regularly from growing exhibition and pairing of new objects and previous Open Source installments.
